San Diego Indie Music Fest

For one day a year, the people of San Diego get together to celebrate everything local.

Local Bands and Musicians

Naturally, the San Diego Indie Music Fest is the place to be if you want to check out upcoming local bands and musicians. However, it is also a great place for local businesses to show off their wares. You will find a variety of food, beer and wine, and other goods, all on offer at the festival. All of this gets tied together by the real point of the festival.

The Show

The show is put on each year to support a local charitable cause. Each year the festival organizers pick a local non-profit to support, with 2019 supporting Rock to Stop the Violence. Rock to Stop the Violence supports victims of domestic violence. If you hit up the festival for a good time, you can also take pride in knowing that you are doing so for a good reason.

Where Can I Find The San Diego Indie Music Fest?

If you are planning to check out this local festival, you need to know where to go. Of course, San Diego plays host. However, the actual site has changed a few times throughout the years. From 2004 up until 2010, the festival was held in Hillcrest and North Park. 2011 then saw the festival move to Liberty Station, Point Loma. This change was necessary as the crowds kept growing. In 2015 the festival moved one more time to City Heights. With this move, the festival was cut down from 3 days to 1 day. This cut was partially down to a lack of interest in local films. That had been a focal point for the years though it was clear there was less interest. In fact, the overall attendance dropped after rising steadily up until 2013. Both these factors led to a restructuring of the festival to what it is today.

The Faces Behind The Festival

We have Alicia Champion and Danielle Lo Presti to thank for the Indie Music Fest. The two run their own independent record labels, so they have an interest in promoting local music. Their love for the arts and social activism was also a driving force behind the festival. The two left San Diego in 2016 to be closer to family, though they didn’t leave without saying goodbye. They hosted a one-off concert to celebrate local music once again. They have not been involved with the Indie Music Fest since then, though they still strive to promote their values whenever they can.
